  Tapatalk now Enabled
Posted by: FlyingMongoose - 01-07-2016, 04:59 PM - Forum: News & Announcements - No Replies

As some of you may be aware (if you visit this site with a mobile device) we've now enabled Tapatalk on our forums.

What is Tapatalk?
Tapatalk is a free mobile app that allows you to interact with your favorite forums in a more efficient manner than dealing with a cumbersome web site (or at least cumbersome if you're doing it from a phone browser)

What are the benefits?

  • Independent App
  • Form reading
  • Notifications of numerous things.
  • One login for numerous forums (that utilize Tapatalk)

What are the Downsides?
It doesn't support the Calendar, but that's okay, you can still use computers for that.

Do I need it?
No, but it's definitely useful for a quick glance at the forum and communication. Plus, while mobile phones are getting better resolutions to handle most themes and forum systems, it still can be cumbersome, this helps alleviate that.

How do I get it?
For Android Devices:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/detai...o.activity

For iOS Devices (iPhones & iPads):
https://itunes.apple.com/app/id307880732

  Star Citizen Organization
Posted by: FlyingMongoose - 01-07-2016, 03:16 PM - Forum: News & Announcements - No Replies

I'm sure many people here have heard me talk about what I consider my most anticipated game of all time, Star Citizen. Let me give you a back story.

Chris Roberts was a young adventurous programming in the late 80s and early 90s, being a huge space movie and fiction fan he wanted to design a game that conveyed the same immersion of a space opera or drama, his vision wound up being Wing Commander. When I was 6 years old I got Wing Commander for my Super Nintendo Entertainment System, that would have been 1991. In Wing Commander it allowed you to play in an arcade as well as go on missions, while having an ability to interact and speak with any member of the crew on the capital class ship you were stationed on. It was pretty awesome, even the space flight had the best space flight methods and model at the time. Of course, as with many games you could pick you name (in Wing Commander they called it a call sign). I actually maxed out the character limit, I put Mongoose, maybe it was because I saw a bit of Top Gun (Goose was shortened for Mongoose in that movie), but ultimately, I have been using Mongoose or some form of that name in gaming since that time, about 25 years. FlyingMongoose officially was the one I stuck with around 15 years ago and never went back.

Basically I owe Chris Roberts my gaming namesake, and also a bit to my gaming heritage. This is why it's so exciting to me that Star Citizen is being made, because Chris Roberts is the lead of Star Citizen, it has raised over $100 million in backer and pledge and kickstarter funding making it the most successful crowd sourced game of all time.

It's features include procedural generated planetary terrain, large amounts of star systems, mining, shipping, combat, story, persistent universe. It's basically a "space life simulator" more than it is a space combat simulator like Wing Commander was, but space combat is still a big part.

Today they are using one of the most computer load daunting engines on the market to provide the most immersive and high fidelity experience possible (as well as grind our computers to a halt), the Crysis 3 engine with significant modifications.

I am happy to announce that I have founded an Organization in the official Star Citizen Universe, it is, of course, named Tuned Chaos, you may visit and apply for it here, but as with all our communities in games, we are still casual, we have no attendance requirements, nor pledge system or fees. We feel games are for fun, not for work!

To access our Organization go to this link:

And here's the link to our actual discussion thread on the game.

Smile Chat and Servers Listing
Posted by: FlyingMongoose - 01-04-2016, 01:13 PM - Forum: News & Announcements - No Replies

Though I implemented the server listing system early on I had some trouble with it, I've re-added it and it's now listing the Teamspeak Server we have (there may be other things added later). Server info is listed on the bottom of the forum list, but on the Portal the Teamspeak is listed on the left of the page.

I've also added an IRC Based chat. To get into that just click on 'Chat' in the upper right of the page.
The full details on the chat usage are available in the following forum thread:
http://www.tunedchaos.com/showthread.php?tid=8

Lastly, there is no longer an attachment limit on threads, reason being, I needed a lot of attachments to write my guides, and honestly, it's only fair to all!

Information Spoiler Tag and New Color Scheme
Posted by: FlyingMongoose - 01-03-2016, 02:20 PM - Forum: News & Announcements - No Replies

I honestly really like the default theme of our Forum System (MyBB) I was never a fan of its color scheme, and Tuned Chaos (since myself and Ryan [MoNoGoAt] founded it) has always worked best with a red and black color scheme. So there we go, we have red and black now! Yay!

Also there is now a spoiler tag!
Check it out in action! (Don't worry there's actually no real star wars spoilers in this)

Show ContentStar Wars:

You can utilize it using a new button that's in the same section as Horizontal Rule, insert image, insert e-mail, and insert link. It looks like this (only smaller):

.png   imageicon.png (Size: 1.63 KB / Downloads: 113)

You are also capable of "Nesting" spoilers (by placing a spoiler inside of a spoiler inside of a... you get the idea).

Lastly, if you're using quick edit or the advanced editor, utilizing the spoiler tag means utilizing the following code
Code:
[spoiler=optional]
spoiler here
[/spoiler]

The "=optional" means you are NOT required to place it (This will be the title displayed on that spoiler). So, this will work too
Code:
[spoiler]
spoiler here
[/spoiler]

Hello Everyone!

So we can keep things organized I've set up multiple calendars that fit to each of our game sub-genres plus we still have the "Default" calendar.

So here's the rules and links on the calendars.

Overarching: If anyone is not registered they may not post, read, or view any information on any calendar.

Information Welcome to the new Tuned Chaos
Posted by: FlyingMongoose - 01-01-2016, 11:05 AM - Forum: News & Announcements - No Replies

In an effort to make this system easier to maintain (and to provide a centralized meeting place online that is NOT Facebook for my gaming friends) I have set up this forum! It will be transforming over the next few days and weeks to provide a great central location for putting together game meetings in person and online!

I hope everyone can enjoy themselves here and hope to see you all around!

Good luck and happy fragging!
